When I was a pilot building up my flight time, I was living in South Florida and flying just about every kind of plane I could get my hands on. I often had to opportunity to fly people and cargo all throughout the Bahamas. Now that I’ve been flying business jets for over 20 years, I realize that time in my life was truly the best. I’ll never forget the deep blue Caribbean beneath me and the sight of my island destination coming into view over the horizon.
Having flown to nearly every island in the Bahamas and having stayed in everything from a beachside bungalow to a luxury highrise, I can tell you that you shouldn’t miss the opportunity to stay at Atlantis, Paradise Island. I remember when it was being built. Paradise Island was barely even a strip of land. I’m amazed at the finished product. Located just off Nassau on the island of New Providence, Paradise Island has been converted into a luxury escape for young and old.
If you’re a gambler then don’t miss their casino. I’ve even won a few bucks there myself! When in Nassau be sure to try some Bahamian specialties like conch fritters, cracked conch, conch chowder, and my favorite conch salad. Yum! One of the best places to get these prepared fresh is at the base of the old bridge connecting Paradise Island with Nassau, or at a festive little area called Fish Fry.
